Sustainable Scuba Mask Defog with Natural home-grown Aloe Vera leaf’s
Fogged-up masks can ruin a dive, I am sure we all have felt the frustration of a fogged up mask, and we all try toothpaste, baby shampoo, commercial defogs but often they all harm marine ecosystems and are also costly. At Lotus Bungalows & Gangga Divers in Candidasa, we’ve pioneered a sustainable solution with: Fresh aloe vera leaf’s as mask defog.
Grown in our resort gardens, fresh aloe vera leaves are rubbed inside masks before dives, rinsed slightly, and reused throughout the day (1-2 leaves suffice for a boat full of divers for the day, 2 or 3 dives). This low-cost, natural alternative is gentle on skin and ocean life, aligning with our eco-diving ethos.
- Pros: Cost-effective, home-grown in our resort garden, skin-friendly, and sustainable with minimal marine impact.
- Cons: Requires garden space and daily fresh leaves.
- How It Works: We planted aloe vera in our resort’s unused areas using compost soil from our kitchen compost. Aloe vera multiply quickly so there is an endless supply of sustainable and ecofriendly mask defog. Simply break of an Aloe Vera “leaf” bring it to the dive trip rub the Aloe Vera in the mask before the dive and rise it lightly just before the dive. Your scuba mask will stay clear of fog allowing you to enjoy every moment of the dive.
Do not keep the aloe vera leaf in your mask box and forget it over night as it will start to degrade and become smelly specially in tropical heat hence the need for fresh Aole Vera on a daily basis. Don’t worry we got you covered, our guides will bring fresh leaf’s every day.
This innovation, rolled out at Lotus Bungalows in Candidasa on the North west cost of Bali was a test, but now slowly expanding across Lotus Hotels and our Indonesian dive resorts in Raja Ampat, North Sulawesi and North Halmahera by proving its effectiveness for sustainable diving around Indonesia.
