Some people love traveling on their own, while others would much rather be in a group or with a partner. Love it or hate it, traveling on your own is sometimes the only way to go on trips you really want to do. Perhaps you’re planning a trip to Candidasa, Bali and are wondering if it’s a good idea to do it solo. Let’s have a look at the pros and cons.
The Balinese people are incredibly friendly
This may seem like a crazy generalization, but the Balinese people are really some of the friendliest, kindest and most generous people you will ever meet. The majority speaks great English and is happy to help you get to where you need to go or even show you around. Candidasa is especially friendly as it’s a small town where people are interested in tourists but not pushy like some of the more tourist-heavy areas of the island.
You can walk everywhere
Candidasa is really one long strip where hotels, including Lotus Bungalows, shops, restaurants, pharmacies etc. all line the road. You can of course wander further into the villages but everything you need is within walking distance. This means no need for a driver or renting a motorbike.
There are divers galore
Candidasa attracts divers from all over the world, which gives you common ground for making connections. Gangga Divers at Lotus Bungalows welcomes solo divers and never has trouble making up the numbers on dive trips. It’s also a great place to do your PADI dive certification as there are often single travelers taking the courses. Around the pool or over a meal in the restaurant there are always people to chat to if you want to.
Candidasa is a really safe place where you can feel comfortable walking after dark and staying on your own. There is little to no crime and the scamming of tourists is extremely rare. You can sleep peacefully on your own without worry.
Solo car trips
We say cons but actually there is only one we can think of. Candidasa is about 2 hours from Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport and if you’re alone you will have to shoulder the cost on your own. This also goes for any day trips or drop offs and pickups you want during your stay. Lotus Bungalows has transfer services by private car at an additional fee so you don’t have to worry about finding a driver.
There really aren’t many places better to travel solo to than Bali, and Candidasa is a perfect low-key place to relax and have some alone time. This doesn’t mean you can’t meet new friends though. There are plenty of opportunities for socializing as well. We recommend taking a good book, enjoying some time by the pool, chatting to the lovely local people, and generally making the most of time doing whatever you want to do.
